Paul Jacques is the lead guitarist and vocalist for Magnolia Drawl. He joined Magnolia Drawl shortly after the band’s debut CD, Try a Little Harder, was released in April 2018. Paul is a talented musician who plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and dobro but don’t think for a moment that his diversity of instruments minimizes his electric style on the lead guitar. When Paul joined Magnolia Drawl it was clear from their first gig together that he would be a solid fixture. His ability to adapt to the wide-ranging genre of Magnolia Drawl is the perfect complement to their signature style. From his classic country riffs to his hard driving, hard rock licks you will not be disappointed and find yourself mesmerized by his talent. His smooth sound on Tennessee Whiskey is as signature as his ripping style on Crazy Train. You’ve got to hear it to appreciate it and believe me you will! Don’t be surprised to see him jumping around the stage, rockin’ it with his bass player Shellie or challenging Mary to a duel with her sax. It’s all part of his show and just raises the energy of Magnolia Drawl’s already energetic style.
Paul was born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in a small town in Northeastern Ohio. Paul brings his Midwest roots into everything he does on and off the stage. Raised on Hee Haw and Led Zeppelin, Paul grew up with musical influences ranging from Glen Campbell, Herb Alpert, Arthur Fiedler, Ray Coniff and Frank Sinatra, eventually discovering Angus Young, Edward Van Halen and Brad Paisley. Paul fuses Rock 'n Roll, Country, Folk, and even Heavy Metal into a unique style that is instantly recognizable and delivered with an unforgettable passion and sense of humor that leaves audiences screaming for more!
In 1984 he was accepted into the Studio Guitar Program at the University of Southern California based on a demo tape he recorded on a rented 4-track cassette machine in his dorm room at boarding school. He immediately embraced Southern California and knew he had found his home. After graduation, Paul played professionally in groups including Zoo Station, Lost Weekend and Whitey's Fault. In addition to his live and recording work, Paul has composed music for various corporate clients including Halliburton, Adobe Systems, the American Film Institute and the Los Angeles Times for which he scored a series of movie trailers that aired in virtually every theater in Southern California and were viewed by over 8 million people. Relatively reserved offstage, onstage Paul comes alive and his animated virtuosity has entertained countless fans over the years. He has played with Billy Sheehan, Queen Ida, Bobby Vinton (Paul's Polish Grandmother would have been so proud!) and countless other world-class musicians. Paul is a one-of-a-kind talent that you must see to believe. So, don’t miss an opportunity to see him and Magnolia Drawl live at a venue near you.
